NTS LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

 
National Toppers Local Scholarship Scheme

These are full scholarships only for the top ranked students who have completed their Year 13 or such equivalent studies as determined by the Board in the year preceding the award year. For students to qualify for 2022 awards they should have completed Year 13 or equivalent studies in 2021. Applicants must be ranked as National Toppers in their applied priority areas for an undergraduate program at an approved Higher Education Institute.

The total number of scholarships available for 2022 is 480, spread between 10 priority areas of the Fijian Government.

  1. Fiji National University.
  2. University of Fiji.
  3. The University of the South Pacific.
  4. Corpus Christi Teachers College.
  5. Fulton Adventist University College.
  6. Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education.
Application Eligibility Criteria
An applicant must:
  1. be a Fijian citizen;
  2. be ordinarily resident in Fiji for at least three (3) years before the award commencement date unless determined by the Board or delegated authority on case-by-case basis;
  3. be in Year 13 or such equivalent studies as determined by TSLS at the time of application. An applicant who has completed Foundation Studies and repeats Year 13 is not eligible to apply for the Scheme;
  4. apply for a priority area as advertised by TSLS for an academic term or academic year;
  5. secure a place at an eligible institution by means of a final offer letter; and
  6. be being fully vaccinated or exempted by Ministry of Health and Medical Services if above the age of 18.
Other General Application Rules
  1. Applicants applying for NTS Local Scholarship Scheme must list three choices in the order of priority from the most preferred to the least preferred choice.
  2. During application processing priority will be given to the first stated choice. Second and third listed choices will only be considered if there are scholarships available in the category after processing has been done on first listed choices.
  3. All NTS Local Scholarship Scheme applicants must fill in 3 programme choices for TELS New Scheme and must also fill in 3 programme choices for TELS for TVET – FNU.  In case the NTS Local Scholarship Scheme application is not successful, the application will then be moved to TELS New and assessed accordingly. If still the application is not successful, the application will then further be moved to TELS for TVET – FNU and assessed accordingly. As such there is no need for an NTS applicant to apply for TELS for New and TELS for TVET - FNU separately.
  4. Any programme not included in the national priorities’ areas list does not qualify for the NTS Local Scholarships Scheme for 2022.
Required Documents for the Application
The following must be submitted by the applicant as part of their application:
  1. official academic transcript for Year 12 results or equivalent deemed by Board or delegated authority;
  2. provisional results for Year 13 examination set by the Ministry or such equivalent studies as determined by Board or delegated authority;
  3. final offer letter from an eligible institution of first choice in a priority area;
  4. birth certificate;
  5. letter from FRCS stating the student’s tax identification number, or FRCS and Fiji National Provident Fund joint card;
  6. evidence of the student’s supporting parents’ or guardians’ income (salary slip for working parents/guardians, most recent tax assessment by FRCS or statutory declaration as applicable);
  7. supporting parents’ or guardians’ letter from FRCS stating their tax identification number, or FRCS and Fiji National Provident Fund joint card;
  8. bank statement with an active account under the applicant’s name;
  9. recent passport-size photo;
  10. evidence of applicant being fully vaccinated or exempted by Ministry of Health and Medical Services if above the age of 18; and
  11. such other documents as may be requested by TSLS.
Scholarship Privileges

Students awarded the NTS Local Scholarship Scheme are entitled to the following benefits:
  1. Tuition Fee (As per bills raised by the HEI’s).
  2. General service/enrolment fees as billed by the Higher Education Institutions;
  3. Accommodation and Meals (Hostel or Rent) - Maximum of $2,400 per Semester or $2,000 per Trimester. Should the hostel and meals fees charged by the Higher Education Institute exceed the approved rates as per the award confirmation letter, you will be required to pay for any difference privately.
  4. Book Allowances − FJD $1,000 per annum.
  5. Incidental Allowances - FJD $1,000 per annum.
How to Apply
  1. Scan and get all the required documents ready before starting the process of applying online in the pdf, png, or jpg format. File size should not exceed 5MB.
  2. Visit www.tsls.com.fj and register for TSLS online application by creating your own email address using Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail.
  3. Once registered fill in the appropriate information and upload all the required documents.
  4. Submit the online application by checking in the declaration.
  5. Check your landing page on the status and progress of your application. 
  6. Students will not be able to submit the online application unless all mandatory fields are filled (With the exception of Year 13 results and final programme offer letter from the eligible institutions).
  7. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered for assessment.
Students applying online will be able to log in and check the application status at any time and also print and upload the TSLS Offer Letter, Bond Form and download their confirmation letter online.

Submitting a completed application package does not guarantee approval.

Assessment & Notification of Scholarship
  1. TSLS shall be responsible for assessment of applications against the set criteria.
  2. TSLS may seek further information to verify details submitted by the applicant.
  3. All application will go through an extensive review and TSLS’s decision shall be final and cannot be appealed.
  4. Official indication of being granted a sponsorship is the receipt of the award confirmation letter from TSLS.
Scholarship Acceptance Dead Line
  1.  All Scholarship offered must be accepted within 7 days from the date stated in the Provisional NTS Local Scholarship Scheme Offer Letter.
  2.  Offers not accepted by the deadline will be declined.
  3.  To accept the offer, applicants must sign and upload the Provisional Offer Letter and Bond Form on their Landing Page (Application Portal).
