Elena Tuberi

Elena who is on the verge of completing her Bachelor of Arts and Graduate Certificate in Education majoring in; Geography and Literature and Language from the University of the South Pacific (USP) said she was thankful to the Fijian Government for having such provisions in place to support Fijian students achieve their career goals.

“The Fijian Government had always supported my educational journey ever since the free-education scheme. It made me take up the chance because at the end of the day we will be the future leaders of a better tomorrow. Coming from a struggling background if it wasn’t for this initiative, I would not have probably reached the place I am today because I will have to find ways to cope with the burden of paying university fees and at the same time watch my parents work extra harder,” Elena said.

She added that University life has been challenging however constant perseverance and hard work allows her to stay focused and determined.

“The National Toppers Scholarship personally was my way of giving back to my parents because of their continuous support and struggles,” she said. “During Year 13 it was my aim to achieve better marks to qualify for the scholarship. When I received confirmation that I was selected to be one of the toppers students in Fiji I was overwhelmed because I knew this scholarship will fulfill my parent’s dreams and mine. It opened a chance for me to work harder and take up as much educational opportunities I can while studying at USP.”

Elena aspires to become an educator and be an inspiration for other students.

“As a student enrolled under an education programme, I hope to see myself as an educator one day because I would like to motivate students to do better in every domain and help them achieve life goals through guidance. Personally, I would like to be an ultimate role model in a student’s life and generate future aspiring leaders of tomorrow, “she said.
