The Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) is pleased to announce a landmark collaboration, solidifying commitment to the development and advancement of the accounting profession in Fiji. The collaboration, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to foster a robust partnership that benefits aspiring accountants and the industry.
This was achieved after constructive discussions by both organizations for the mutual benefits.
TSLS, which administers Fiji Government scholarships has strategies to work with FICA on improving quality of scholarship intakes, and yearly allocation of awards for accounting programmes. FICA will assist in this while also providing industry mentoring to the sponsored students in accounting programmes.
Under this agreement, FICA will actively engage with TSLS to understand and address the evolving needs of accounting profession, ensuring that academic programmes align with industry requirements. It will provide industry mentoring to TSLS-sponsored students across various tertiary institutions, offering invaluable insights and guidance to nurture the next generation of accounting professionals. Furthermore, FICA will extend the opportunity of student membership to individuals sponsored by TSLS, allowing them to benefit from the institute’s resources and network.
Mr. Rajeshwar Singh, President of FICA, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “This MoU signifies a significant step forward in our commitment to nurturing and developing the next generation of accounting professionals. By working closely with TSLS, we aim to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that aspiring accountants are well-equipped for the challenges of the profession.”
Meanwhile, TSLS will actively promote the availability of awards for the accounting discipline, encouraging aspiring accountants to pursue educational opportunities.
Dr. Hasmukh Lal, the Chief Executive Officer of TSLS said “the organization welcomes such partnerships with industry peak associations and FICA is the first one that has inked the MoU. The plan is now cemented to provide scaffolding support to the sponsored students with industry mentoring sessions to improve pass and completion rates. This will assist students graduating on time and joining workforce with industry knowledge. The regular engagements in this partnership will be for allocation of scholarships for entry, paraprofessionals, and professional accounting studies to help small, medium, and large enterprises, respectively.”
