The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Planning & Development, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, successfully launched the newly in-house developed Sponsorship Information Management System (SIMS) during the opening of the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) Nadi Office on 30th May 2024.
TSLS CEO Dr. Hasmukh Lal said that this is to centralise and streamline all sponsorship-related data for scholarship planning and investment design, reporting, enhance stakeholder engagement and accessibility. Therefore, TSLS was excited to announce the launch the first of its kind Sponsorship Information Management System.
Dr. Lal added that this new platform aims to organise all sponsored data into a single, easily accessible location for all stakeholders, ensuring transparency and efficient management. The key features of SIMS are Application Programme Interface (API) development which will ensure seamless integration and real-time data flow. Data Cleaning and Migration will transit existing data into the new system without losing fidelity. Furthermore, students will have access to their sponsorship details, monitor their status, and receive updates directly through the System. In addition, Automated Notifications update regarding allowances, changes, and other essential news will be directly communicated to sponsored students. The system will integrate with Tertiary Education Institution’s (TEI’s) and Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS), creating a cohesive network between institutions and TSLS. With Government’s plan to make TSLS one stop shop for Travel and Bond Clearance, the immigration integration feature will help in providing convenient public service on travel abroad approvals.
“Over the coming months, we will extend access to the sponsored students and continue to enhance the system features. Our goal is to ensure that the platform becomes a cornerstone of educational support, simplifying processes for students, administrators, and sponsoring bodies alike”, said Dr. Lal.
During this event the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Planning & Development, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, also launched the TSLS revamped website which was designed with our users evolving with convenience in mind where finding relevant information has never been simpler. As Fiji continues to become the digital and ICT hub of the Pacific, we aim to see more public sector organizations using technology-enabled business processes to serve Fijians better.
Dr. Lal said that TSLS believes in inclusivity and that is why our website is equipped with accessibility features to ensure that everyone, regardless of the disabilities can benefit from our services. Some of the key features are Colour Blindness Adjustments, Seizure Safe Mode, Visually Impaired Mode, Cognitive Disability Mode, Focus Friendly Mode and Assistive Navigation tools.
