The Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) new online account creation for scholarship application
for the 2024 academic term 1 closed on 9 February 2024. It was opened on the 8 of December 2023. Those students who have created scholarship application accounts can continue to update and complete their application by 16 February 2024 in case not done yet. No scholarship processing will take place beyond 16 February 2024.
As of 9 February, 7966 applications were successfully completed and submitted for processing. There are still applications that are in incomplete status at the applicant’s end. TSLS has made various attempts to remind the students to complete.
Furthermore, not every applicant qualifies for scholarship which is based on the publicly available eligibility criteria and as per past trend some applicants create their account do not complete their applications. Those who do not meet the eligibility criteria for degree programmes have the option of taking up skills qualifications at Certificate III, IV and Diploma Level 5. Please note that scholarship eligibility criteria are different from the university admission criteria at the degree level.
As of Friday 9 February 2024, TSLS has made 4712 offers for academic term 1 of 2024 and this number is
expected to increase with close of processing on 16 of February 2024. There are 9148 continuing sponsored students for 2024
A total of 8720 awards are available in the current financial year and a budget of $55.5m is allocated for new students. A budget of $92.7m is set aside for existing 9148 sponsored students who will continue their studies in the 2024 academic year.
TSLS has noted an increased number of applications and scholarship offers for academic term 1 this year
compared to the past two years. The online application portal provided a convenient platform for applicants to register and apply for scholarships. Students were able to register and apply remotely using mobile devices, tablets, laptop, and computer.
TSLS facilitated a country wide school awareness drive and zoom session for maritime schools to create
awareness of TSLS Scholarship schemes, eligibility criteria and online application and processing system.
This allowed students and teachers to gather firsthand information and be able to apply online post release of Year 12 and 13 marks. The Key Stakeholders workshop organized by TSLS assisted in disseminating information to all Higher Education Institutions and stakeholders.
TSLS wishes the recipients of Fiji Government scholarships the very best for the 2024 academic year with the expectation to meet the required pass rate for the continuation of sponsorship.
